My Goals for Ripon
Increase Efficiency of City Operations
I will work with all department heads to learn their current responsibilities, determine if there are any overlaps between departments, or if any duties are lacking. I will reassign any duties that could be done by different departments more efficiently. If there are any unneeded redundancies, I would eliminate them.
Reduce Energy Used by City Operations
I will work with all department heads to evaluate the energy usage of each department. We can then develop and implement a plan to reduce the amount of electricity, natural gas, and other energy we, as a city, use. This will not only save money to the city, but it is the least we can do to reduce climate change.
As a member of the Board of Trustees for the Ripon Public Library, I have been advising the Library Director on a project to replace all lighting in the library with LED lighting. This will drastically lower the electricity usage and the overall utility bill.
Explore Alternative to Our Current Recycling Service
I will work with other municipalities, county and state governments to find alternatives or money saving options to our current recycling service. All communities are experiencing increased cost to recycling services. Together, we can work to get the costs down while improving the effectiveness of our recycling programs.
Increase Business and Industry in Ripon
I will work with the Chamber of Commerce to bring more businesses and industry to Ripon.
I will encourage small and medium sized manufacturing businesses move to or start-up in Ripon. This could include a one or two person operation working from a garage to a 50 to 100 employee factory in the industrial park.
In the past several years, Ripon has become the home to several artisans and designers who sell there products, not only in the Ripon area, but around the world. I will work to continue to grow this part of our community.
I will also work to bring in more retail businesses. My goal is to have enough retail choice, so a person who lives in Ripon can do all of their regular shopping without leaving town. This will also bring in more business from the surrounding areas
